The Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission (RIHPHC) administers State and Federal historic preservation tax credit programs to help owners meet the costs of substantial restoration and rehabilitation projects. RIHPHC preservation architects help owners to plan their projects and make sure that the work meets preservation standards.

The Rebuild Rhode Island Tax Credit program administered by the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation can be used for the rehabilitation of historic buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places, making the preservation and adaptive reuse projects more affordable. Their website has detailed information on how to apply for Rebuild tax credits for historic rehabilitation projects.
